The Problem
In this type of ophthalmic surgery, surgeons access the back of the eye through standard
procedures and utilize various instruments, for example, a retinal rake, to remove these
membrane(s) by scraping or scouring the surface of the retina. As can be easily understood, this surgery can easily cause the inadvertent nicking of the retina and more seriously the macula. The consequences of these inadvertent mishaps are very serious.
